Home warranty costs
Home warranties cover most of the cost of fixing or replacing damaged appliances and systems in a home. Many new homes are sold with warranties and the cost is usually paid by the seller.
The cost is charged for one year, in advance, and can usually be extended.
Prices start at around $250 and go up depending on what is covered. Also, the price of a service call to fix a problem, can be from $30 up to $100 for each call.
Standard home warranty coverage usually includes:
* Major appliances,
* Home heating and water heaters,
* Electrical wiring,
* usually for an additional fee, central air-conditioning,
* items not covered by a standard policy can usually be added for an additional fee.
Damage from misuse or pre-existing damage is not covered.
When a covered item in the home breaks, the homeowner calls the insurance company, and they come out to fix the problem. There is usually a service call fee, that is much less than a usual fee charged, around $30 to $100. If the item can not be fixed, the home warranty company may replace it with a new one.
Most items located outside a home are not covered, as are additional fees if permits are required.
There's always plenty of stipulations, obfusications, and whatnot in a home owners policy, so best to read it twice.
